Roy moved from Red House & Cocoanut House & now has
a Stand at the Long Melford Antiques Centre.
We specialise in Oak, Walnut, & Mahogany Furniture
from the 17th & 18th Centuries.
Period Portraits & Paintings complement our stock
which also includes Early Metalware.
We also have an extensive knowledge of Clocks
& Barometers although these are not in stock at the moment.

Early 18th Century Portrait of Judge Sir Robert Dormer M.P.
Signed on the letter on the table I H.
Attributed to Thomas Hill 1661 - 1734.
Circa 1710.
£ 4,850.
Sir Robert Dormer 1650 - 1726.
Was the second son of John Dormer, Barrister & local landowner of Lee Grange
& Purston, Buckinghamshire.
He was baptised at Quainton on 30th May 1650.
He entered Lincoln`s Inn in May 1669, called to the bar in January 1675.
He later became Chancellor of Durham.
He entered parliament as a member for Aylesbury in 1698.
In 1701 & 1705 he was elected as M.P. for the county of Buckinghamshire.
On 28th November 1702 he became M.P for Northallerton.
He was raised to the bench of the common pleas on 8th January 1706.
His seat was at Arle Court near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
He inherited Lee Grange & Purston from his nephew Sir William Dormer 2nd Bt.
He died on 18th September 1726 & was buried at Quainton.
In the tower of Quainton Church you will find a fine monument to Sir Robert Dormer & his
wife & son.

Having boxwood stringing with tapering square legs.
Original brass castors.
It has the rare feature of tea canisters inside which i have never seen before.
Must have been made for someone who wanted to lock their spirits & tea away together.

Original swan neck handles & oak lined drawers.

Only measures when open 26 by 24.25 by 26.50 inches high.
Possibly may have been made for a child.
Having the original brass ring handle.

With the original brass hinges & key escutcheon.
You can see the white marks where someone has polished the brassware for years with
brasso.
The whole piece has a super colour & patination.
